We are moving into our new place in Potts Point tomorrow! We've been here about a month now, and are starting to get settled in here. Not particularly looking forward to living without furniture or pots and pans for two weeks, but I suppose it could be worse. If you have any information on volunteer opportunities or social group type activities going on it'd be greatly appreciated! I'm going a bit stir-crazy being home all day while my boyfriend is at work, and we've only been out with his coworkers a couple times. Also, wanted to ask if you're from NH originally (based on your blog title). Both my boyfriend and I are from NH (I'm from the Dover area, and he's from Tilton). I really enjoy reading your blog! Oh, I've included the link to ours so you know we're not creepy internet people :-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7768431463427124391.post-56115312732014644122012-11-21T21:27:04.428-08:002012-11-21T21:27:04.428-08:00Good for you looking into all this ahead of time- ...Good for you looking into all this ahead of time- much smarter than we were! In terms of housing there are a couple other things that were a bit of a shock for us coming from the states... The economy/housing market is still VERY good here. Because of that rent is really high and places do not typically stay available for long. The "open houses" that they do are usually only 15 minutes, where everyone swarms in to view the place. It is a bit crazy/overwhelming. Check to see if your boyfriend's company is providing you with any sort of relocation consultant... that's what we had and they made the process easier (ie taking us around to places and making sure we had all the paperwork they needed with bank information and such to start the process...).
In terms of areas to live, most in and around the CBD are going to be okay. It is only if you start getting further south or to the outer west that you need to be careful (inner suburbs I would only avoid Kings Cross). Other than that, it depends what you guys are after for an experience... if you prefer being close to the CBD, Pyrmont, Surry Hills and Paddington are good... I really like Balmain as well which is just a short ferry ride into Darling Harbour. If you are looking for more of a beach setting, Manly is great and filled with expats (I much prefer this to Bondi). We have lived in 2 areas in the northern suburbs and loved them both... Kirribilli which is just over the harbour bridge and on a beach in Mosman between there and Manly.
Sorry for the long-winded response, and let me know if there are other questions you have!
Kellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08229413279076391699noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7768431463427124391.post-6693731802380329962012-11-16T09:07:57.264-08:002012-11-16T09:07:57.264-08:00My boyfriend and I are heading down to Sydney at t...My boyfriend and I are heading down to Sydney at the end of January. His company is moving us both, and I was shocked to learn that unfurnished means no dishwasher, fridge, washer dryer! Are there any other surprises we should be prepared for? Are there safer/better areas to live than others? Any recommendations greatly appreciated!LChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04714655507932468987noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7768431463427124391.post-72352023920319791342012-11-02T14:40:00.448-07:002012-11-02T14:40:00.448-07:00Welcome to Australia!

All I can say is that it DEFINITELY will get better. Somewhere along the way my hubby and I just started to love living here! Try and enjoy the ride and laugh at the ridiculous stuff that happens.
Let me know if you ever need any suggestions on life here (restaurants, places to visit...) and enjoy!Kellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08229413279076391699noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7768431463427124391.post-79765654554159369992012-11-01T16:55:17.186-07:002012-11-01T16:55:17.186-07:00I just moved to Australia from the states this pas...I just moved to Australia from the states this past Saturday...I think I'm heading into the navigation phase.
